From Cruise Port: Dunedin
After meeting you at the ship in Port Chalmers we will travel along the harbour into Dunedin city. Just enter the main Visitor Terminal building to find your guide.
We begin the tour by traveling through the University of Otago campus with a stop at Dunedins Northern Cemetery to view the Larnach Family Tomb. After this we may visit Signal Hill Lookout for a grand view of the entire city of Dunedin. Of course no tour of Dunedin would be complete without a visit to Baldwin Street. Stop and take photos, or walk up this world record breaking street and check out the fantastic souvenir shop on the corner.
We will then head into the Dunedin city centre for a view of the Octagon and the wonderful collection of heritage buildings on the main street. We will stop in at Dunedin's Grand Railway Station, home of the old Taieri Gorge Railway.
Then it's time to visit Larnach Castle on Otago Peninsula. Experience breath-taking views along the Otago Peninsula high road with photo stops as we travel en-route to the castle. We will arrive in time for lunch (own cost) and table is reserved for the group at the Ballroom Cafe (which serves up a wonderful summer menu).
After lunch your guide will escort you throughout the entire castle, from the gun room below to the views from the turret and all the marvels in between. Enjoy the personal attention as we explore the Larnach family's legacy and tell of their amazing story. The castles spectacular garden is one of international significance and there will be an opportunity to explore the manicured grounds.
*Depending on the day the itinerary timings may differ slightly. We always contact the castle ahead of time to arrange the best time to visit.

I just returned from a great tour with Alan as our guide. It was a small group of only 3 travelers. Alan showed us his city, with tremendous knowledge and kindness. We drove all around the city, along the Otago university and its campus grounds. We went to the Dunedin Grand Railway station, up to see the steepest street in The world, Baldwin St. we visited the Dunedin botanical gardens then we went to the Larnach Castle, and had lunch and toured the castle. Alan was extremely knowledgeable about the castle and its history. We toured the grounds, which are lovely. It was a beautiful day and the tour was great.

If the ship arrives after 9 am will you wait for us?
Yes, our tours are designed for cruise ship clients. If your ship has a late arrival time then please get off the ship as soon as possible to meet the guide who can then update you on the tour departure time.
I see that ships come in to Port Chalmers, how far is it to the city?
Its 14 km by road to Dunedin City centre. Most ships offer a shuttle bus service [at your cost] though you can also take a taxi or the local buses just outside the port. If there are are 3 or 4 of you the taxi will be cheaper than the cruise line shuttle and be more flexible.
Will I be collected and dropped off at the ship?
Yes, the tour guide will meet you by the ship at Port Chalmers and drop you back there in plenty of time to board before the ship departs.
